About
What is Regina Cat Rescue?
Regina Cat Rescue (RCR) is a non-profit, volunteer-run organization and registered charity that helps abandoned cats and kittens and educates people about the humane treatment of pets.
We rescue cats and kittens found on the streets and provide them with necessary veterinary care such as spay/neuter surgeries, deworming, identification, vaccination and any rehabilitation necessary for adoption into loving homes.
We also trap, neuter/spay, and return feral cats back into colonies, followed by long-term care and feeding by dedicated volunteers.
Finally, we feel strongly that education is the key to success in addressing the severe plight of cat overpopulation in our city. We educate the public on the importance of sterilization, responsible pet care, and the benefits of well-maintained community cat colonies.

On November 18, 1982, the Association for the Protection of Fur-bearing Animals was created, later renamed People for Animals of Saskatchewan (PFA). When the organization was formed, its primary goal was to educate the public about the cruelty of the fur industry. However, it wasn't long before the group of animal lovers recognized the need for a rescue in Regina and took action. They established a Pet Rescue program for tame cats and a Trap, Neuter, Return program for community cats—two programs that exist to this day.
PFA became a registered charity with the Canada Revenue Agency in 2009, enabling the organization to issue tax receipts, which resulted in an increase in donations and corporate sponsorships.
In 2010, community cats registered with PFA became exempt from City of Regina licensing requirements, saving valuable funds that could be used for sterilizations instead of fines.
Recognizing the plight of overpopulation, 2013 marked an important year as PFA adopted a pediatric spay and neuter policy, ensuring that no kitten leaves the organization's care unsterilized.
In May 2014, People for Animals of Saskatchewan adopted the trade name of Regina Cat Rescue (RCR).
RCR set a new rescue record in 2020, rescuing 595 cats in one year and 511 successful adoptions.
As a volunteer-run organization, we rely on the generosity, hard work, and dedication of Regina's citizens and businesses. Together, we hope to achieve many more key milestones.
