Find out everything you need to know about adopting from Regina Cat Rescue!

  • Our adoption fee is a great deal – For $150 your cat or $175 your kitten is spayed or neutered, has been vaccinated, has ID like a tattoo or microchip and has been de-wormed. To get this done on your own would cost much more – on average $590 dollars!

Our cats are fostered in a home environment – Because RCR has no shelter all of our cats are fostered in homes. This means we get a good sense of their personalities and behaviours in a home environment. Using this info, we can match you with a kitty that suits your lifestyle. This helps make for a successful adoption because you get a good idea of what to expect from your new family member!

You get six weeks of free pet insurance – When you adopt from RCR Petsecure offers you a free six-week trial of pet insurance. This free trial covers your new pet for up to $500 in veterinary care for accidents and illnesses.

You don’t have to deal with post op care – Every cat and kitten is sterilized before they leave RCR care. This means you won’t have to deal with a stressful trip to the vet for surgery or handle the postoperative care. Our experienced foster care providers handle this so you don’t have to!

You’re saving two lives – When you take home an RCR kitty, you’re also saving a second cat – the new rescue that we’re able to get off the streets. We never euthanize because a cat takes too long to be adopted. So we have cats in foster care for months and sometimes even years. Adopting one of them opens up a foster home spot for a new cat!

  • You love cats and can’t wait to have a cute critter to call your own. But being a cat guardian comes with responsibilities. Before you adopt, complete our quiz to see how ready you are to take on a cat companion for the next 10-20 years!

You’re going on vacation. What will you do with your new family member?

A – Take them with me, board them at a boarding facility or have a pet sitter come in.

B – I think I have a family member or friend who would help out.

C – I’m have no idea. I guess I’ll have to figure it out – or leave behind food mountain?

You’re moving. What will you do?

A – I own my home and cats are always welcome.

B – I will rent a home where cats are permitted and make sure I have saved enough money for a pet deposit.

    C – I will pretend I don’t have a cat and hope the new landlord doesn’t notice.

    Are you allergic to cats?

A – Nope! I’ve had cats before – and my family isn’t allergic either.

B – I’m not allergic but I have children and I’m not sure if they are.

C – Yeah, I’ve had to get rid of other cats because of allergies in the past.

Your cat is sick and needs to see a vet. What will you do?

A – I have pet insurance or savings to cover a visit to the vet.

B – I’ll have enough money for a vet visit very soon – just need payday!

C – I’m gonna Google her symptoms and see what I can do for free.

Work, school, gym, activities … How much time each day do you have to spend with your cat?

A – Making time for my cat is a top priority. I set aside 30 minutes each day for interactive play to make sure my kitty gets the stimulation and exercise she needs!

B – I’m pretty busy but I can fit in some cuddles and play time.

C – Sometimes I’m away overnight or can’t get home for 24 hours or longer. So my kitty will be alone for long hours at a time.

    Results:

Mostly A’s – Congrats! It looks like you’re in a good position to take on the responsibility of a cat. Visit the Cat-A-Logue to see which kitty is a good fit for you!

Mostly B’s – You’ve got a lot of the bases covered! Give some thought to how you can create an even better situation for a new kitty in your life, then see if you can find a cat that’s a good fit for your lifestyle!

Mostly C’s – It sounds like you’re not ready to take on the responsibility of cat right now.

  • We first require interested adoptees to fill out an application to adopt. Regina Cat Rescue screens all applications and selects the best suited home in the interest of a successful adoption. Successful applicants are put in contact directly with the foster family to arrange a meet and greet. The meet and greet allows adoptees to interact with the cat in the comfortable surroundings of their foster home, and the fosters often have great insider information on the cat's personality to see if they're a good fit! All foster homes have adoption packages for each cat, and can do the official adoption process at that time. Payment can be made via etransfer to adoptionfees@reginacatrescue.com (please note the cat’s name with the transfer), or by cash to the foster.

  • The Adopter agrees to:

Provide nutritious food, adequate shelter, care and medical attention to this animal at all times, as per the Animal Protection Act of Saskatchewan, and the provisions of the Cruelty to Animals Section of the Criminal Code of Canada. Note: Regina Cat Rescue does not adopt to those planning to de-claw the cat.

Not allow the animal to roam at large, as per Regina Animal Bylaw No. 2009-44, Part III, Article 12. Please review the full bylaw at www.regina.ca/business/bylaws.

Acknowledge that it is my responsibility to purchase a City of Regina pet license for my adopted cat. These can be purchased at any vet clinic as well as the Regina Humane Society.

Notify Regina Cat Rescue immediately at adoptions@reginacatrescue.com if the cat becomes ill within 30 days of the adoption date and prior to taking the cat to the vet except in an emergency. RCR will refer you to a partner veterinary clinic for treatment and may provide financial assistance, especially for pre- existing conditions. Reimbursement of veterinary care costs is not guaranteed if consultation does not occur prior to incurring those costs.

Notify Regina Cat Rescue if the cat is lost or stolen at any time.

Notify Regina Cat Rescue immediately at info@reginacatrescue.com if I am unable to keep the cat, with the understanding that RCR will assist in re-homing the cat or will place back in foster care. I will not re-home the cat on my own without the express permission of Regina Cat Rescue.

Understand that it is my responsibility to transfer the ownership listed on the tattoo or microchip. To transfer tattoos email lostandfound@reginahumane.ca. Microchip transfers are done by contacting the microchip company and providing a signed copy of this contract.

Accept follow-up inquiries on the status of this animal from Regina Cat Rescue volunteers and respond to them in a timely manner.

Acknowledge that adoption fees must be paid in cash or by e-transfer and that adoption fees are non-refundable. Tax receipts are not issued for adoption fees.

    Please Note:

Any additional monies donated above the adoption fee are appreciated and will be applied directly to Regina Cat Rescue’s rescue activities and sterilizations. Tax receipts are issued for donations above the adoption fee. Regina Cat Rescue cannot guarantee the health, temperament, or behaviour of the adopted animal.

Regina Cat Rescue does not routinely test cats for feline leukemia or feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), but the contract will note if this has been done.
