Responsible Cat Guardianship

We want every cat to have the best shot possible at a long, happy and healthy life.

  1. Show Love and Attention: Spend quality time with your cat by snuggling, stroking, and understanding their body language. Learn to interpret cues like tail, ears, and body posture to know when they need space or affection. Regular grooming sessions, including brushing, are essential for bonding.

  2. Provide a Balanced Diet: Opt for high-quality wet food as the main meal, supplemented with occasional dry kibble treats. Ensure the food is rich in protein (50-60%), moderate in fat (30-40%), and low in carbohydrates (less than 10%) to maintain optimal health, especially for male cats prone to urinary issues.

  3. Create a Cat-Friendly Environment: Enrich your space with perches, towers, and scratching posts to encourage climbing, jumping, and scratching. Set up cozy resting areas by windows for bird watching and relaxation, catering to your cat's natural instincts.

  4. Spay/Neuter Your Cat: Help control overpopulation and reduce the risk of reproductive health problems by sterilizing your cat. This not only extends their lifespan but also prevents unwanted kittens and contributes to addressing the crisis of overpopulation.

  5. Regular Veterinary Care: Schedule annual check-ups to ensure your cat's well-being and catch any health issues early. Cats are good at hiding illnesses, so regular vet visits are crucial for preventive care and early detection of diseases.

  6. Choose Safe Environments: Keep your cat indoors or supervised outdoors with a harness/leash or in a secure catio. Indoor cats are safer from various hazards, including diseases, accidents, predators, and human cruelty, while also preventing conflicts with wildlife and minimizing disturbance to neighbours.
