Update on Leader-Post kitten
Emma relaxing in her foster home
In early September, Regina Cat Rescue feral team volunteers were camped out trying to catch one very elusive kitten. They'd humanely trapped the rest of the litter, born to a feral mom in North Central Regina, several nights earlier but one stubborn kitten just could not be enticed into the trap. They went on to spend another five evenings trying to trap the young black kitten so that she could join her siblings in foster care to be socialized for life indoors with a human family. It was on one of those nights that they were joined by Leader-Post reporter, Emma Graney, who captured the story and wrote about it for the Sept. 25, 2014 edition of the newspaper.
The next evening the lure of sardines was finally too much for the wee kitten to resist. Her appetite proved stronger than her fear and she took the bait. Volunteers were relieved and named her Emma after the reporter who shared the kitten's story with the city.
Today, Emma is a whirlwind of energy and fun. She's come to love humans and purrs like crazy the moment she is picked up. She integrated well with her siblings and other cats in her foster home. She's currently waiting to be spayed so that she can be listed for adoption and find her forever family (to sponsor her spay, please click here).
RCR volunteers are very happy that this little family is safe indoors and won't be contributing the cat population crisis in Regina. They are also thankful for all the messages of support they received following the publication of Emma's story.
From fierce little feral to aspiring reporter.
Emma's siblings - Krystal, Sarah, Ali, Drew and Brady - will also soon be ready for sterilization and adoption.
