Waverly the Christmas rescue

As anyone who volunteers or works in rescue work will tell you, there is no such thing as a holiday.  With this bit of information at the back of my mind, it did not surprise me when I was contacted about a stray cat with an injured ear that needed my help on Christmas Day.

The poor fellow had been hanging around the neighbourhood of his rescuers for a few weeks and everyone assumed he belonged to the new neighbours who moved in around the same time Waverly began begging for food and shelter.  With the warm weather of the past 2 weeks no one was overly concerned and figured Waverly would find his way home.  When he just didn't seem to want to leave, and after checking with the new neighbours who were not his owners, found ads were posted and the rescuers waited for this very friendly guys family to come claim him.  Sadly, with the cold snap we are expecting, and no owner coming forward, RCR was contacted for help.

Naturally a cat in need does not care what day it is on the calendar, and with an ear wound that could become infected, I wasn't worried about it being Christmas Day either.  Waverly's rescuers dropped him off at my house last night just as the weather began to get cold.  After cleaning his ear, which he hated, Waverly settled in for a warm night's rest with a roof over his head.  I guess you could say Waverly's rescuers and my willingness to take him in regardless of the day, was Waverly's Christmas miracle.

Now safe and warm indoors, Waverly is booked for his neuter and will be listed for adoption early next week.  Everyone who helped coordinate his rescue is hoping that next Christmas Waverly gets to spend the day with a forever family.
