Look What The Storm Blew In!

The violent thunderstorms that struck Regina and area Friday evening definitely left lots of carnage and as usual when an extreme weather event occurs, there are furry victims as well.  Late Saturday RCR was notified about a tiny litter of orphaned kittens whose mama disappeared during the storm and who needed help immediately.

Their best bet for survival was to join a nursing queen and hope that she would accept and nurse them as if they were her own. Luckily, we have a newly rescued mama cat with a 6-day old litter in our care.  She was rescued Thursday and settled nicely into a foster home, where she has proven to be a diligent mama.

We had the nursing queen, but unfortunately no way to get the kittens to her right away. So we contacted one of our most reliable and experienced bottle feeders, and thankfully she was able to take the kittens 8and get them through the night.

Sunday morning, she took them to the nursing queen with fingers crossed and sure enough it worked and the mama adopted them! This hard working little mama just doubled the size of her litter, but is taking it in stride. She is just happy to be safe and sound with her kittens.  Her foster mom says our little  mama is so affectionate and sweet that she forgets about her babies and rushes for pets and cuddles when anyone comes into the room!

Thanks to a lot of people with big hearts and a mama cat with extra love (and milk) to give, 4 little babies are alive and well and will get a chance to find loving homes.
