RCR Bids Adieu to Louie
Louie undergoing veterinary care at Northgate Animal Hospital
The life of a feral cat isn't always easy, but Regina Cat Rescue (RCR) volunteers do their best to take care of the cats at our feral colonies, including caring for them when they are sick or injured.
When our two feral team leads spotted Louie experiencing severe diarrhea at one of the feeding stations late last fall, they knew he needed vet care fast or he would be at risk of dehydrating.
The volunteers trapped him and took him to a vet, and from there did their best to give him his daily medication while keeping him safely confined. Louie was tested for diseases, but all the results were negative. Over the following months, he was put on a variety medications and tried numerous diets, but nothing worked for poor Louie.
The severe diarrhea caused Louie pain and his quality life had completely diminished. With Louie suffering and no chance for recovery the decision to euthanize him was made. Louie was put down this past weekend due to chronic bowel disease that he could not overcome. We are sorry that he had to suffer, but relieved that he is now at peace under the rainbow bridge. Louie will be missed by all those who cared for him.
Thanks to all the kind volunteers that cared for him on the street and while he was being treated.
