May Means Spay - Day Two
We launched our first ever May Means Spay campaign yesterday! We shared a media release with the city’s media and shared the campaign on our social media accounts. We’re hopeful that together - the media and RCR supporters - can help spread the word about May Means Spay!
May Means Spay is all about raising funds and awareness. Funds enable RCR to spay and neuter Regina’s feral and stray cats. Awareness encourages pet owners to spay and neuter their own pet cats. Together, funds and awareness can help make a dent in Regina’s cat overpopulation crisis.
The cat overpopulation crisis is caused by unsterilized cats being allowed to roam. One female cat can produce up to 12 kittens a year. Within months her kittens start reproducing and the number of kittens being born explodes. Don’t get us wrong - we love kittens, but we hate seeing kittens struggling to survive on the streets. The way to prevent that suffering is spaying and neutering.
RCR is experiencing success with its trap-neuter-release (TNR) and foster home programs. For example, in 2010 there were 12 litters of kittens born at RCR feral cat colonies. But thanks to our TNR efforts that number dropped to just 2 litters born at our colonies in 2014. We want to expand on that success but we need funds to do so and that’s why donations are so important.
RCR wishes to extend its warm thanks to Justin Swedberg for designing our May Means Spay logo, to Sabrina Millis for our campaign photography and to all our volunteers who work so hard caring for Regina’s abandoned cats and kittens.

Evie, barely out of kittenhood herself, was found on a cold garage floor in February. She had given birth to kittens prematurely, one had already passed away and she was struggling to care for her remaining kittens. But Evie and her surviving kittens are the lucky ones. They are now off the streets and in RCR’s care, they’ll be spayed and neutered, and adopted into loving homes. Help us help more cats like Evie. Donate today!
