A Winning Team!
Estelle nursing adopted babies Edwin and Jose.
Regina Cat Rescue (RCR) foster mom and avid Toronto Blue Jays fan, Jaimie barely had one foot in the door after her summer vacation when she was summoned to go rescue two tiny orphaned kittens. Their mama had disappeared and the babies were cold and weak when rescued, but they had spunk! Jaimie took them home and set herself to the demanding task of bottle feeding. Inspired by the babies' will to survive, she named them after two of her sports heroes.
Edwin Encarnacion hit three homeruns (a hat trick) in Saturday’s game against the Tigers; a two-run homer, a three-run homer and a Grand Slam. This was his third Grand Slam of the season tying two other Blue Jays players from 1997 & 2000. He scored nine runs in the game which ties a team record set back in 1977. The Blue Jays won the game 15 – 1. Edwin has had a hit in the last 24 games.
Edwin is a modest guy and doesn’t like attention and rarely does interviews. The kitten Edwin is a super sweet guy who comes running the moment someone walks into the room. He cries for attention and loves to be held.
Jose Bautista is another player who’s having an amazing season with the Blue Jays this year. He has hit 31 homeruns this year, including back-to-back homeruns with Edwin.
The kitten Jose is just like Edwin. He runs to his foster mom when he hears or sees her, and loves to be held and petted. He also loves the big black lab in the home.
These little kittens are fighters! Both were severely dehydrated when they arrived in care and were half the weight they should have been for their age. Though they are still small for their age, they are gaining weight quickly and have been given a complete bill of health from a vet.
RCR, Jose and Edwin got a big boost when little Estelle joined the team. Estelle was rescued in distress and starving the day after Jose and Edwin came into care. She was engorged and had clearly been nursing but try as rescuers might her kittens could not be found. So it seemed like a good idea to try her with Edwin and Jose. Fortunately, she accepted them and adopted them as her own.
Now, all three cats are thriving and looking forward to finding forever homes of their own!
