Jessica crosses the Rainbow Bridge

Regina Cat Rescue (RCR) is saddened to share the news that another feral cat in our care has passed away.

Volunteers had to say a tough goodbye to Jessica last week. Jessica was a beautiful feral cat from one of RCR's North Central community cat colonies and one of eight cats that call this location home. Jessica was a truly feral cat. She was elusive and avoided people as much as possible. When volunteers visited on their daily rounds to provide food and water, Jessica would run away as fast as she could or stay hidden in the back yard with her sister Josie. Jessica was trapped and spayed at around six months old and had lived at her colony for the last eight years.

This summer feral feeders noticed that Jessica had a terrible wound behind one ear as a result of her scratching so much because of severe ear mites. Feral team volunteers tried every imaginable bait to try to catch Jessica all summer but she continued to elude the traps. After months of failed attempts, Jessica was finally caught in November. Soon she was receiving the treatment and care that she so badly needed. Her wound was looking better, but Jessica had started to display neurological signs and was having difficulty walking. Despite all of the efforts it had become clear that Jessica could not live in this condition so the decision was made to let her go. Volunteers were by Jessica's side as she crossed the Rainbow Bridge. She is now living free of pain and of the stress of life on the street. Rest in peace little angel. You will be missed.
