Cat rescued after living stray for two years -- and other recent rescues

Every rescue is special for Regina Cat Rescue (RCR) volunteers. But sometimes there are certain cats that tug especially hard on our heartstrings and remind us why we do what we do.

And that’s the case for these four recent rescues.

Benson post-groom and recovering in foster care

Benson was living outdoors for two years. During this time he was receiving food from a concerned citizen, but it was obvious outdoor life was taking its toll. Tame, but terrified, wounds from other cats, ear mites, filthy and matted fur – Benson needed help.

Volunteers spend two days in the cold, crouched down near him and earning his trust with food. Their patience was rewarded when the scared Benson relented and he let himself be scooped up and placed into a carrier. And he must be thankful that he did as now he’s been neutered, vaccinated and given a much needed groom from his friends at Adventure Purr Cat Boarding and Pet Salon.

Juniper & Marmalade

Juniper & Marmalade

Juniper and Marmalade were living under a porch alone and doomed to perish in the winter temperatures. The young kittens were most likely born outside as they weren’t socialized to humans and ran from all contact. And that’s where RCR volunteers came in. While most folks were safe and warm indoors, RCR volunteers were on the dark, cold streets setting traps and waiting for the duo to take the bait. And it was worth it! They’re safe in foster care and thriving!

Darryl

Darryl

Beautiful Darryl was believed to have been left behind when a cat hoarder had their cats apprehended, but he managed to escape and wasn’t scooped up. A concerned citizen noticed that Darryl had been left behind and reached out to RCR for help. Darryl’s future is trending upwards now! No hoarding, no living outside … he’s on the path to a true forever home!

Tiny sweet Faye had somehow made her way into the parking garage at a local condo complex. While she was safe from the winter elements in the heated space – a parking garage is no place for a kitten. She was facing hazards like moving cars, hot engines, antifreeze and other chemicals. Once in RCR care, we found that Faye was suffering from an upper respiratory infection. But with some vet care and TLC in foster care, she’s on the mend!

So far in 2021 we’ve rescued 21 cats. Sadly, there’ll always be cats in need of rescue for as long as cats are allowed to roam and live together intact. So, please spay or neuter your cats. Learn more:
