A Day in the Life

August might be the lazy the days of summer, but there is no rest for the weary animal rescuer.

Yesterday, in one short day, we experienced the following before noon:
  • one sick cat with post neuter complications that need vet care
  • one young female cat booked for a spay that was declined by the vet and needed additional supportive care for a health condition
  • a desperate request for foster care help for a mama and kittens rescued at a nearby lake
  • the surrender of two former PFA kittens as the adopter was taking on the care of an elderly relative. One of the two cats had severe ulcers on her mouth and had been suffering for some time, and is now being treated for a serious medical condition at a vet clinic
  • a plea for help for  a stray kitten kicked out from the home that he knew when they no longer wanted   him, huddling under vehicles and crying on doorsteps to get inside

  • one previously adopted cat at his loving home in Calgary, near death and seeking his siblings health history,
  • a plea for help with a rescued Russian blue
  • the rescue of an abandoned kitten who was often seen crying on the doorstep of a home in north central to no avail.
  • another surrender request for a cat adopted in 2009 who is apparently going to be happier with a stranger than the family he has known since he was a tiny kitten due to changes in family circumstance
This is a typical day for PfA volunteers who also work full-time day jobs (i.e. paid employment) and spend several hours per day of their own time working on solutions to these and other similar problems.  Here are some of the sweet cats that landed in our already overloaded laps over the last day or so.
