Tiny Tabbies Rescued Just in Time
Last night a PFA volunteer alerted us to a situation in her neighbourhood that had left a number of cats in jeopardy. A resident had sold his home and left 16 cats behind, including some very sick little kittens in urgent need of care.
These two little tabby kittens were hypothermic and extremely dehydrated from diarrhea.
They were rushed to a vet clinic and treated, and as of this morning both had perked up and were eating and grooming themselves, and were settling into their foster home.
Their poor little bottoms are so scorched and swollen from diarrhea that the fur on the base of their tails is burned off and the vet couldn't tell the genders!
A mama and 4 3-week old babies were scooped this afternoon and went to an emergency foster placement, while 9 more were taken to the Regina Humane Society as we simply didn't have the capacity to take on 16 cats on short notice.
This is a sad example of what happens when pet owners fail to spay and neuter. Had our volunteer not intervened and grabbed the two sick babies, they would have died a painful death from dehydration and several others were in a similar state, although not as bad.
Luckily the little tabbies are in good hands and are improving quickly with meds and some TLC. Stay tuned for updates on these spunky little guys.
