Treasurer
This volunteer role oversees RCR’s financial matters in line with best practice and in accordance with the governing documents and legal requirements. This role is responsible to regularly report to the rest of the Board of Directors regarding the financial health of RCR.
Responsibilities
Ensure effective financial measures, controls, and procedures are in place for the corporation
Oversee responsibility for the funds of RCR; ensuring a full and accurate account of all assets, liabilities, receipts, and disbursements for RCR are kept in the Corporation’s books
Guide the financial related activities of staff and contractors, which includes but are not limited to the Operations Manager and Bookkeeper
Submit financial statements for review and discussion at bi-monthly board meetings, and make recommendations to guide the financial health of the corporation
Submit an annual report to the President, which is added to the Annual Presidential Report to share with members at the Annual General Meeting. This report should include revenue and expenditure statements, along with a balance sheet
Oversee matters to retain charitable status with the Canadian Revenue Agency, along with filing corporate tax returns and corporate information return annually
Ensure tax receipts are provided and written for eligible donations, and done so in accordance with CRA guidelines
Prepare and oversee the corporations budget
Chair the Finance and Revenue Development Committee
Perform such other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Board of Directors
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
A CPA or CPA Candidate with 3+ years’ experience in accounting or finance
Previous experience serving non-profit organizations and/or non-profit Board of Directors is a strong asset
High level of integrity and ethics
Extremely organized, with a keen eye for detail
Passionate about the welfare and well-being of cats
The Treasurer must provide a Criminal Record Check to hold this volunteer role. They must also purchase and maintain an annual RCR membership during their term on the Board.
