Surgery Funds Desperately Needed

Regina Cat Rescue has rescued over 300 cats so far this this year, many of which have been sterilized and gone on to find forever homes. However, many of the cats we rescue off the street come to us with health issues that are not always apparent upon rescue.

It is not unusual for rescued strays to have special health care needs such as bad teeth, eye scratches or breaks and sprains. What is unusual is the severity of the issues RCR has encountered with recent rescues.

Poor Cecil is a very sweet and handsome boy rescued by a kind family that discovered him foraging at their cabin this summer. They couldn't bear to leave him on his own over the winter with no resources, so they brought him home in September and contacted Regina Cat Rescue for help getting him a home. He is a sweet, affectionate cat but his life as a stray has left him with 4 broken canine teeth that need to be pulled as they are causing pain. Canine teeth are deeply rooted and require additional time to remove, which means an expensive surgery.

Sweet Blanche is a lovely girl who is very affectionate and sweet. She was rescued so severely underweight that she was hours away from death, but has thrived in foster care. Sadly, Blanche suffers from a terribly painful condition called stomatitis, which means she is allergic to the plaque on her teeth. This causes painful inflammation, and eventually leads to cats not even being able to eat. The only cure is to pull all of the teeth, including the roots. This is a successful but expensive intervention. The generous folks at iQmetrix stepped up in a big way and donated $250 towards Blanche's surgery, and RCR is so thankful that they did. But additional funds are needed to cover the remainder of her surgery costs.

Blanche may be a beautiful girl, but she suffers from a very painful condition known as stomatitis. The only cure is to pull every tooth from the root.

Finally, we have poor George. He is a young tabby boy who was rescued from the streets, crying next to the body of his poor deceased mama cat. He is a great cat, but he suffers from a rare condition known as luxating patella on both knees. A luxating patella is a kneecap that pops out or moves from its normal location. It causes problems with walking, running and jumping.

It's a complicated condition to explain, but the only fix is orthopaedic surgery on both knees to prevent him from being completely lame. Of all the surgeries that we contemplate for our cats, orthopaedics are the most expensive.

George is a beautiful young cat who suffers from an unfortunate and crippling condition known as luxating patella, in which his knee joints pop out of place.

RCR is out of funds and has no means of treating these complex medical conditions. All of our money has gone into spay/neuter surgeries (or is earmarked for upcoming spay/neuter surgeries) for the many cats and kittens rescued over the spring and summer.

Even with significant discounts from partner vet clinics, the surgeries are out of our reach, and we need help. These cats will not get the treatment they need until we can raise the funds required - at least $1,800 to cover the 3 surgeries.

Please help these three wonderful cats by making a donation today. Make your donation online here today! You can also donate by cheque. Tax receipts are issued for donations of $25 or more.

Regina Cat Rescue’s biggest expense is veterinary care. We hold numerous fundraising activities each year to cover these expenses but in times of extra demand – like now – we reach out to the community and hope that our supporters and animal lovers will give generously.

Any funds raised beyond the $1,800 for Cecil, Blanche and George will be used to help other abandoned cats and kittens requiring veterinary care.
