A close call for Ashanti
Ashanti the day before her emergency surgery.
Recently, a local vet clinic contacted Regina Cat Rescue (RCR) for help when someone brought in a young, 8-month-old cat to euthanize because she was vomiting constantly and the owners were not in a position to get her the necessary treatment. The vet felt that the issue was a fixable one and that the cat's health would improve and she’d have a long life.
After taking her into RCR care, diagnostic tests were done to figure out what was causing the chronic vomiting and inability to eat. With some basic care and fluids, Ashanti seemed stable and things were looking better. The next day, X-rays confirmed a blockage and surgery was booked. But sadly, Ashanti quickly began to decline and needed emergency surgery that day. A piece of foam was found in Ashanti’s intestines causing a blockage, which left untreated, is fatal. Thankfully, Ashanti is a fighter and she made it through the surgery better than everyone expected. This sweet girl has now been discharged and is recovering in an experienced RCR foster home. She will be spayed at the end of June after she has recovered completely and will then be listed for adoption.
RCR is very happy to have stepped in to help save Ashanti's life, but expenses like emergency surgery do strain our finances, and with the busy kitten season upon us, we need every dollar to sterilize the cats and kittens in our care. Any donations to help cover the expense of Ashanti's surgery are appreciated. RCR is a completely volunteer-run organization so all money donated goes straight to vet care.
