Six things we're up to during the intake freeze
Rescuing a cat is more than just getting him or her off the streets. So while Regina Cat Rescue (RCR) currently has an intake freeze in effect our volunteers are still very busy behind the scenes! Here’s the top six things we’re tackling during the freeze – and some ideas on how you can help!
Shelter making bee in progress!
Building winter shelters for community cats. Volunteers recently got down to business building or “renovating” winter shelters to help the city’s community and stray cat population survive the winter. Learn how you can help outdoor cats this winter here.
Getting cats ready for adoption. Deworming, vaccinating, booking sterilization surgeries, shuttling cats to and from the vet. The work only begins when a new cat enters RCR’s care. With over 50 kittens who need prepping for adoption – the daily tasks are an all-hands-on-deck situation.
Posting adoptable cats to the cat-a-logue. Our team of volunteer photographers are kept jumping as they visit foster homes and satellite adoption centres to capture beautiful images of our adoptable cats. Volunteer ad writers are crafting adoption profiles and getting them posted to the cat-a-logue so that cats are one step closer to finding their forever homes! View over 110 adoptable cats here.
Organizing fundraisers. Rescuing over 455 cats so far this year means money is our greatest need. So our fundraising team is busy organizing fundraisers and brainstorming ideas to help bring money in. Keep an eye on our upcoming events page for ways to support RCR financially - and have some fun while doing so!
Just some of the awesome volunteers who helped out at the recent hockey games at Mosaic Stadium.
Working events at Mosaic stadium. Thirty-eight volunteers worked the Heritage Classic and Pats Game on the weekend. By doing so they raised much needed funds for RCR. You can help too! We need volunteers for the Nov. 2 Rider game and the home CFL playoff game. Email us to learn more!
Developing a budget for next year. RCR’s board of directors are working on budget adjustments and projections to determine when the intake freeze can end and ensuring RCR has enough funds heading into the new year. Donations mean the freeze can end sooner rather than later. Consider donating today.
