Foster home urgently needed for FIV+ cat
This is Cheeks, a sweet short-haired black cat with white ticking in his fur that almost makes him look like a greying old guy. He is a bit shy, but understandably so when most of his life has been spent on the streets. After PFA rescued Cheeks, we discovered that he has FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus).
Cheeks is only two years old, so he has a lot of life left in him. Research has now shown that FIV is not a death sentence for cats - they can still live long, happy and healthy lives. In the past, FIV positive cats were commonly euthanized, but now we know that the risk of transmission to other cats can be lowered through sterilization, which reduces fighting behaviour (and thus transmission of the disease through cuts/blood) and sexual transmission. In fact, we know of many cases where people have had an FIV cat in the house with their healthy cats, with no spread of the disease.
Unfortunately, PFA's foster home system is packed and we have no spots open for Cheeks. If we are unable to find him a foster or permanent home within the next few days, we will have to release him back to the streets.
Can you help?
Give Cheeks a chance at a long and healthy life indoors: please spread the word and help us find him a foster or forever home! Please note: Cheeks must be fostered by himself or in a house with other FIV positive cats.
