Surprise Rescue Saved Alexandra's Life

This pretty girl is Alexandra, a young tabby who was found in a North Central alley a few days ago, heavily pregnant and so starving that her bones protrude.

The kind citizen who found her had actually gone down the alley to try and nab a stray dog that she had seen running around loose before it got hit by a car. Instead of the dog, she found poor Alexandra and couldn't bear to leave her there to have her kittens on the street.

She took Alexandra to the home of a PFA volunteer that she knows, and from there she went straight to Victoria Veterinary Clinic.

Given her frail condition and malnourishment, the assessment was that her chances of surviving the delivery weren't good, and even if she did, she wouldn't be able to produce milk for her kittens so we decided to go ahead with a spay which was done this morning.

It was an extensive operation as Alexandra has a deformed uterus, and also needed a tooth pulled in addition to the spay. However, this little trooper came through it just fine and is doing well and resting at the clinic.

When our volunteer dropped by to see her, she stumbled over to the front of the cage for some pets, even though she was still dopey from the anesthetic!

This beautiful cat definitely had an angel looking out for her when she was found, and she is on her way to a better life.  We are grateful that there are caring people out there who look our for strays!

We are hoping Alex's luck continues in the form of a caring foster or adoptive home.
