Good Night To Sweet Jewel and Sweet Garnet

PFA volunteers bid a sad farewell to two sweet rescue cats this week.  It's heartbreaking to rescue a cat in need only to lose them to illness or injury, and these little cats will be missed.

Jewel was a beautiful cat who was abandoned by her owners and literally rescued out of a snowbank on a chilly December day. She was shy, matted and hungry but very grateful and happy to be rescued.

Sadly, this poor little cat had a cancerous tumour on her tongue that eventually prevented her from eating and caused her significant discomfort.  Treatment options were extremely limited due to the type and nature of the tumour, and the sad decision was made to euthanize her to spare her further discomfort.

We are happy that in her last days she was warm, safe and loved.

Garnet, a friendly and gregarious fellow who has been on our wait-list for several weeks is a lovely cat who was obviously left behind by someone.  He was an extremely affectionate and loving cat despite the fact that he had a hard life on the streets. He was rescued on a very cold day with severe wind chills, covered in frost, missing chunks of fur, and with a huge and infected abscess from cat fights.

Just when we thought his luck had turned and he was on his way to a better life, Garnet tested positive for Feline Leukemia, a horrible and fatal illness that unfortunately affects many street cats.  Feline Leukemia is always fatal and eventually claims all its victims, so we made the difficult decision to spare Garnet any additional suffering.

We bid these sweet cats good night, and are happy that they are free from pain and suffering, and that they knew love and kindness in their last days.
