Goodnight, Sweet Jemima
Last week our feral feeders noticed that a long-time colony resident, Jemima, was showing signs of illness. Our intrepid feral team leader, Leanne, went to check out the situation and found her with laboured breathing and in distress.
It isn't easy to deal with feral cats and get them into a carrier. Even those that are sick can put up quite a fight, but luckily she was able to get Jemima to a vet to be checked out. Sadly, the little one didn't make it. She was suffering from a severe chest infection and stopped breathing before the diagnosis was confirmed.
As a feral cat, Jemima didn't necessarily have the easiest life, but it is the only life she knew. Our dedicated feral feeders miss seeing her at the feeding station, and we are sure that her sisters Jenny, Jessica and Josie are missing her too.
While sad that her life was cut short too soon, we are grateful that she is resting peacefully now and won't have to endure another brutal Saskatchewan winter.
