PFA Bids Adieu to Smoky and Gabriel
PFA volunteers said a sad goodbye to of our sweet feline friends just before Christmas.
Smoky, the lovely grey cat with the sad eyes, was a young feral cat who lived at one of our newer colonies. He was found deceased by one of our feral feeders just outside his shelter box unexpectedly. There was no sign of injury or illness and he had access to food and shelter, so it is a mystery as to what happened to Smoky, but the life of feral cats living outside can be hazardous and unpredictable. We will miss seeing him at our feeding station, as will his cat buddies, especially his "girlfriend" McKayla, from whom he was inseparable.
Gabriel was a sweet tame boy found frozen and starving by a kind lady who took him in and contacted PFA for help. He was so lucky to be rescued from the cold and to have several people offer to foster him that we named him Gabriel, believing that we had We had high hopes that Gabriel would make a full recovery and go on to thrive and find a loving home, but he had a number of health issues including hyperthyroidism and kidney failure and was so severely dehydrated that he was in pain and was unable to eat. Despite our sadness, we are happy to have had Gabriel in our care, even for a short period of time. He was loved and cared for his final days and was able to die in peace and without pain rather than succumbing to the elements on the street. Sometimes, our role as cat rescuers is to help the cats transition across the rainbow bridge with dignity.
