5 Spring Babies

Rescues come in all shapes and sizes and from more situations that you can imagine. Though PFA does not have the ability to provide 24 hour emergency intake, sometimes things work out in ways no one expects and today is one of those days.

While having a quiet restful day off, one of our volunteers was contacted by a gentleman who was very concerned about the 10 day old kittens in his house. After he began some renovations in his home the other day, the first time young momma cat got scared and hid her kittens underneath the bathtub where no one could reach them. In addition to hiding the kittens, momma got scared and refused to nurse the kittens and had abandoned them. After calling around the man found the home number of a volunteer who dropped everything to run and help get the kittens safely out.

The situation looked grim and some imagination was needed in order to find a way to safely reach the kittens without hurting them. After some thought, a putter (a kind of golf club) was used to reach under the bathtub to the very back where the kittens were and slowly and carefully slide each of the 5 kittens forward until they could be reached by hand. To say it was an adventure would be putting it mildly, but that's what may of our dedicated volunteers are willing to do to help a kitty in need.

After the rescue momma still wanted nothing to do with the kittens so the man asked PFA to take them into care and then find them forever homes. They were taken to a local vet clinic where they were checked over to ensure no one was injured during their unusual rescue. All 5 of the kittens were given a clean bill of health and taken to Danielle, a volunteer with PFA who strictly deals with kittens requiring bottle feeding. After many years and more litters than can be counted, Danielle's experience is extensive and PFA is grateful to have such a volunteer who is willing to commit the time to nursing these little ones.

The kittens will be placed up for adoption in 2 1/2 months when they are been spayed/neutered.
