Goodnight, Sweet Reeko

Reeko feeling fine knowing he’s safe and sound off the streets.

Handsome Reeko was a street warrior when he was first noticed by a long-time RCR volunteer who looks after community cats in her neighbourhood. She knew right away, though, that he was a lover, not a fighter so he was rescued and placed in foster care. It was quickly evident that Reeko was a gentle and loving cat who adored being with people.

Sadly, Reeko did not escape his time on the streets unscathed. He tested positive for the Feline Immunodeficiency Virus ( FIV) and struggled with chronic upper respiratory illnesses over the years. He was a trooper throughout it all and thrived with his loving foster family. They kept his symptoms under control and made sure he had the best of everything. Reeko became an important part of their human and furry family.

Reeko was a cherished family member in his home.

Reeko and his family had 5 good years together and shared lots of love. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with cancer of the bladder back in June, and we were forced to accept that he wasn't long for the world. However, Reeko surprised us with his resiliency and love of life. He put up a good fight and managed to enjoy most of the summer, hanging out on the deck soaking up the sun and the love of family and friends.

On August 17th, Reeko's time in this world came to an end and he crossed the rainbow bridge with his family and his rescuer at this side. He is greatly missed already, but we are thankful for the time he had with them.

Reeko was always involved in family activities.

Good night sweet boy, but not goodbye.
