This Torch Was Dimmed Too Soon
Sometimes the hardest thing about rescuing animals is knowing that you've done everything possible and it still isn't enough.
We are saddened by the loss today of a beautiful young female cat named Torch. When our feral team volunteers saw this young kitten hungry for food at a feeding station last week, they noticed that she appeared to be suffering from a bad case of diarrhea. Concerned with her shaky appearance, she was picked up and taken for veterinary care.
After a few days of monitoring at the clinic, the vet noticed that she had string in her stool and a determination was made that she needed surgery to remove it and hopefully avoid internal damage. The surgery was performed yesterday and while preparing Torch for surgery, it was discovered that she had a serious condition called pyometra (an infection of the uterus) and thus she needed to be spayed as well. She also had a badly infected abscess under her tail.
The surgery was long and intense, and in the end, the combined trauma proved to be too much for this poor little cat that was barely past kitten-hood. She passed away at the clinic this morning.
We are very sad that this poor little cat suffered so much in her young life, and didn't have a chance to find a loving home. As always, we are grateful to our dedicated volunteers who are on the street daily caring for homeless cats. We are happy that Torch was safe and warm and knew kindness before she passed.
